Lukwago Charles served in the police department in Kamuli district. While there, he met the lovely Ms. Gertrude, and he fell head over heels for her. Their love blossomed into a family. In February 1994, they welcomed David Mugerwa, the first of their two sons. By this time, Charles had been transferred to Kibaale District. They raised their children peacefully and lived a happy life. That was until his father began drinking regularly. It was as if alcohol transformed him into a completely different person.
When intoxicated, he would get violent, pick fights at bars, lash out at their mother, and even lay hands on her. This behaviour created a tense atmosphere at home. He started going out with other women and occasionally wouldn’t return home. When Charles was transferred to the Luwero police department, their mother decided not to accompany him. She saw this as a chance to escape their troubled relationship, hence their separation in 2003.
